The Green Carnation | Oscar Wilde Satire | First US Edition
Description
The Green Carnation | Oscar Wilde Satire | First US EditionFirst published anonymously in 1894, The Green Carnation is a satire of Oscar Wilde & the Aesthetic movement written by Robert Hichens, who was on the fringe of Wildes circle. Wilde & his friends were known to wear a green carnation in their buttonholes; the exact reason why has not been proved, although its become a sort of literary legend that it was a form of flagging (like the handkerchief code). To this day, the flower remains inextricably linked
newly backed & wired up by someone other than me
The wrappers are just slightly too small for the textblock
consolidated from Tennyson’s Idylls of the King and Mallory’s La Morte d’Arthur with black & white illustrations by Walter Enright
but I believe this particular design is her divinely inspired vision
especially given that these cases are very fragile
now scattered to the 4 winds
In her version of heaven
Very good condition
It’s bound in heavily embossed read leather with a gold toned clasp and contains 56 photos
This 1920s porcelain Limoges dish looks ordinary at first glance
& a lose hook
If it’s Victorian and has a hand motif
