Nieuport 28Nieuport 28 model airplane. Although initially rejected by French and British air services, the Nieuport 28 became a beloved fighter among United States Air Service squadrons thanks to its speed and maneuverability. A favorite among aces such as Harold Hartney, its only flaw was a tendency to lose its upper wing fabric during abrupt dives. Eventually, it was replaced by the less agile SPAD S. XIII.
