Roman Onager #20068The Onager was a type of catapult of ancient origin. It was also widespread in the Middle Ages. The Romans previously called this machine tormentum or scorpion (scorpio). The catapult standing on two skids threw stone projectiles, burning charges and other objects (snakes, filth, severed heads, etc.) intended to sow terror in the enemy using a long arm with a "spoon".
